Pakistan and Azerbaijan reaffirm cooperation in key sectors

Pakistan and Azerbaijan on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and people-to-people exchanges during a telephonic conversation between their leaders.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a warm and cordial discussion with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, during which both leaders expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of relations between the two countries.
The two sides exchanged greetings and reiterated the strong fraternal ties and longstanding friendship shared by Pakistan and Azerbaijan. Discussions also focused on enhancing cooperation in sectors of mutual interest, particularly trade, investment opportunities, energy collaboration, and expanding cultural and public-level contacts.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his best wishes to President Aliyev for the successful hosting of the upcoming World Urban Forum scheduled to take place in Baku next week. He expressed confidence that the event would contribute positively to advancing global discussions on urban development and sustainable growth.
The prime minister informed President Aliyev that due to prior commitments he would not be able to attend the forum personally, but assured that Pakistan would be represented at the event.
The conversation also covered regional developments, particularly ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at maintaining peace in the Middle East. President Aliyev appreciated Pakistan’s recent initiatives supporting ceasefire efforts between Iran and the United States and described them as a reflection of growing international confidence in Pakistan’s diplomatic role.
Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact and expressed hope for an in-person meeting later this year. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also renewed his invitation to President Aliyev to visit Pakistan officially at the earliest opportunity.
